As many of you know by now, we turned on the MOL III system to the public around 1pm PST earlier today. We did not announce the go-live time, as we tried to let the news spread through word-of-mouth to not bog down login servers and such early on. As I’ve stated in many previous posts and blogs, we have *very* limited functionality enabled right now, with casual play, chatting, and trading (more on this one in a minute) being just about all that’s turned on.
Shortly after launching, we had two minor hiccups, both of which we believe to now be fixed, they included:
Some users who had won Morningtide packs as PRIZES were not able to see the packs displayed in their collection. This was due to the fact that MOL III only has one booster image for sets, the packs were still there in the database, and a quick script fixed that issue. Morningtide packs won as prizes were the *only* issue like this we were made aware of.
The store was giving some folks issues with ordering due to a quirk in the database conversion process. We think this issue is now fixed as well. Please contact customer service if you’re still having any troubles. They can be found here.
Around 3:45pm PST we had our first “actual” crash, with about 1300 people logged in. We know the reason for the crash (in fact we knew very shortly after it happened) and we’d known for a bit that there was an outstanding issue that might require a fix, so we already had a more updated release candidate built, but it needed a bit more testing and QA. This release candidate (RC7) is being smoked by QA right now (as of 4:27pm) and if all goes well we should be back up within a few hours. It’s possible we will continue testing throughout the night though and launch on our previously scheduled timetable tomorrow.
There are a few other issues I’d like to speak to as well, specifically trading and text font/size stuff. We recognize the former is an issue for folks that have tens of thousands or more digital objects in their collections and I’ve had some very basic conversations today with the dev team about how collections of this size will be handled and if there is anything we can do to streamline trading and/or add some functionality in the future. We need to talk about this issue more, but be assured it’s something I’m concerned about and I will report back when there is more news. Regarding the text/font size stuff, we should have a fix that will makes things *much* more palatable in the next week or so, at the very latest it will be included in SP1, which is a couple weeks away.
I will make a post in the announcement section of the MOL boards if we do decide to stay down for the rest of the day.
Please try to remember that almost everything you see is still a work in progress and subject to change if we deem it so. Your feedback is really important to the process, so please post your opinions on the forums and chat about it in-game.
Thanks for your patience, everyone.
